About William Peng

Hello!

I’m an undergraduate student at Princeton University majoring in Operations Research and Financial Engineering.
I am interested in venture capital, entrepreneurship, tech, music, design, digital media, and ice cream.

Work

Venture Capital

I’m currently an Analyst at RRE Ventures in New York City.

In Summer 2008, I was an intern at Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI), the corporate venture arm of Bertelsmann AG. There, we focused on strategic venture investments in innovative digital media technologies, products, and distribution channels across the globe.

At BDMI, I assisted with all stages of the investment process, including sourcing transactions, deal execution, due diligence, financial modeling, and post transaction portfolio management. I had a fantastic experience at BDMI, and I was involved with portfolio companies such as Mojiva, Vindicia, ImageSpan, Trion, alaTest, and RoyaltyShare.

ORFE

I did my junior independent research at Princeton under Professor John Mulvey and Sally Ling. My research focused on the risk-return profiling and management of venture capital/private equity investments using stochastic modeling and optimal decision making under uncertainty.

My research used techniques such as cash flow analysis (NPV, IRR), optimization, stochastic programming, Monte Carlo simulation, regression analysis, and valuation math.

Web Design and Development

I am a self-taught web designer and front-end developer. I have been designing and developing websites for over 5 years, and am currently the Web Manager for the Student Design Agency at Princeton University.

I am experienced in XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript. I regularly use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, Dreamweaver). I like to think about user interface and interaction design in the context of aesthetically pleasing design. I am also experienced in building out websites using the content management systems (CMS): WordPress, Joomla, TextPattern, ExpressionEngine, and Drupal.

Play

In my spare time, I enjoy ice cream tasting, delicious food, good music, and inspiring design. I’ve been trying to get into photography for years, but can’t seem to.

Ice Cream

I am a self-proclaimed ice cream “connoisseur.” In Princeton, I love The Bent Spoon’s gelato (in the summer) and Halo Pub’s ice cream (in the winter). I have not had the privilege, or funds, to travel to Europe to sample their delicious gelato, but I hear that it is very good. It is one of my life goals to someday taste the fine gelato of Europe.

In New York City, I concentrate on the “macrobiotic” yogurt offerings of Pinkberry, Red Mango, and others. Personally, I prefer Red Mango for its creamier texture and taste, though others may disagree. Red Mango was, after all, the original.

Music

I enjoy many types of music, and am open to recommendations. I have played the violin for over 10 years, and I performed at Carnegie Hall in 2004. I love Last.fm, Hype Machine, and Pandora for their endless suggestions. Here is a shortlist of my favorite artists:

coldplay, muse, imogen heap, frou frou, sigur rós, keane, jason mraz, regina spektor, shanghai restoration project, the bird and the bee, inara george, ratatat, beirut, clazziquai, daft punk, john legend, the fray, blip blip bleep, ben folds, my dear disco, johnny hi-fi, kanye, vampire weekend, ingrid michaelson, jon hopkins, casker, joe hisaishi, red hot chili peppers, feist, radiohead, rachmaninoff, beethoven, dvorak, tchaikovsky, seu jorge, ice cream
